“Only the educated are free.” –Epictetus

Ø Describe your ideal Instructor/Professor. Probably someone who is there to help you. Not just there to teach and actually cares about you getting a good grade. And if the person has a sweet personality!

Ø “I knew it when I studied it, but I forgot it on the test.” How can students study differently to prevent this from happening? Study more then just the night before. the more the study the better you get it stuck in your head so it makes your tests seem so much easier.

Ø How do you study for quizzes/tests? I try to look at whatever information that i have a couple nights before to get an idea on and then they the two nights before i study like crazy usually. i should be studying more before but i always feel busy with other things.

Ø What do you have trouble with on quizzes/tests? Remembering what the answer is or how to do the math problem. i have lots of problems in math remember how to do stuff with all the rules there are with stuff. and all the term for anatomy and medical terminology. there's so many big words that i've never heard of before.

Blog #1

Ø List your own quote, favorite saying, song, or other expression of your feelings today. ♪ I've got a feeling, that tonight's going to be a good night. ♪

Ø List initial observations of your new environment. I love living in Marquette. There's so much more here then in Menominee and I have my family up here that i'm able to see more often then I ever would have before. I love all the outdoors and I cant wait to go snowboarding in the winter.

Ø List initial observations of your classes. My classes arn't to bad yet. Lots of homework that im not quite used to and my anatomy class is kicking my butt as we speak.

Ø What observations have you made about other students? They're nice and very welcoming. i really haven't met anyone who was completely rude to me yet.

Ø About your instructors? They're all not bad. i love my english teacher, Adam Gray, He's awesome. Not a fan of my lab instructor, Mike Peters, he doesn't teach us much and he's kind of rude. I dread going to that class every thursday.

Ø What do you think will be your biggest challenge(s) academically this semester? Defientally Anatomy. I feel like I have to study at least 2 hours every day for that class to keep up and im not used to that. Especially that fact that you have to just do everything on your own. I'd rather him say we need to know so much by next class or something. That keeps me more motivated and willing to study.

Ø Reiterate a term or concept you learned in Anatomy this week. Hair Follicles. There's so much about hair they should have their own book! -Root Hair Plexus is the network of the hair. It provides sensory and can detect when the hair is being moved.

Ø List a few pleasant events that happened during your first weeks at NMU. I went to the matix with some girls the first night i was here. I thought it was a blast and we got crap from lots of people for going there. Apparently it wasn't so bad because we got half of those people to go back with us the next week. Hung out a lot at a friends house. Went to a random house with random people and didn't know one person there. It was a blast!

Ø List habits you already possess that make you successful in college. Naps. Never used to take naps and now I do almost every day. Also, im very proud of myself for going to the PEIF almost every day to work out. I'm making sure that i will not get the Freshmen 15!

Ø List habits (timewasters?) you can change or modify, or need to lose. Sitting on facebook is defientally one! I didn't have a computer or the internet at home so have the freedom everywhere on the internet is awesome. So i sit on here alot facebooking and shopping online for things i cant afford.

Ø Explain how you determine what to write down in notes during lectures. Whatever the professor says pretty much. i try to catch almost everything he says. and then when he says key words like "now remember" or "this is important" i put stars next to or something.

Ø Based on your first readings in the TCB text, describe the differences between Active Learning & Passive Learning (reading, note-taking, etc..) Active is where you are actually listening and taking notes to what the professor is saying so you see it and feel yourself writing it down. Passive is just sitting there like a sponge and trying to absorb the information which is almost impossible in anatomy.

Ø Based on your first readings in the BT text, list TWO of favorite quotes and explain why they "speak" to you. "Sit front and center" in anatomy i would sit in the back left seats just because they were the closest when i walked in. Now i make sure to leave early and get the good seats right in the second row and make sure i make eye contact when i can so he knows im listening. "Dont Study at Night" i always feel like i should enjoy the day when it's nice out and go to the beach and then study when i get back at like 7 or 8, but that doesnt work out well when you've been running around all day and when you get back you dont feel like doing homework. So now im starting to do my work more during the day so i dont get tired while doing it.

Ø Finally, name one goal (personal, academic, etc..) you have for yourself next week.To make sure i get all my work done with no procrastinating and actually go to the library and study, not in my room.
